"Jor, the freighters reactor level just spiked into critical and i'm reading several ordinance safeties being disengaged along her midline frame." Rita said into Jor's helmet. Jor had been in enough drug busts gone wrong to know what that meant. The guy knew he was busted and was destroying the evidence... or just doing it out of spite. Jor wouldn't put either past a Sith.
"Rita, over pressurize the airlock and separate, NOW!" Jor commanded. Jor heard the Hiss of air as the Memory over-pressurized it's side of the airlock. He grabbed onto the saftey rail with as much strength as his power armor could muster and the ships separated. The over-pressurized air rushed out in an explosive decompression which blew the two ships apart. Rita's powered the engines and goosed the throttle. Jor got a great view of the Freighter exploding. fire, plasma and bits of molten metal flew right by his head. What looked like a wing nut smacked into his face plate before ricocheting off into space. Jor did a quick safety diagnostic and found his suit had no vents or leaks. he was sealed against the vacuum.
"Thanks Rita, that was a close one. Put Ion, and EMP disable on the checklist for next time." Jor said.
A 70,000 kilometers away, the Sith cruiser started detonating her scuttling charges and her reactors were going critical. Captain Keyes ordered a full reverse burn and a full volley of proton torpedo's. Using the same trick Jor used, he had the hanger pay over pressurized and then opened suddenly to vacuum. The explosive decompression sliding his rear away from the sith ship, protecting his engines and bringing his battle armored bow in line to take the brunt of the explosion.
The final scuttling charge went off and the reactors chain reaction lost stability and accelerated. "Shields to maximum!" Captain Keyes yelled. It was a bit academic though since the shields were already up due to the battle.
The Sith cruiser exploded in a blinding fireball which washed over the bow shields of the Galactica. The reactors detonated into a blinding nuclear fission explosion, vaporizing the aft section of the cruiser and spraying it out into space as a cloud of red and yellow plasma. It would have been pretty if it hadn't meant that thousands of men had just died to serve the irrational whim of a man unwilling to take his licks for getting caught.
Luckily the Dragoons had been inside loading marines and the fighters had enough time to jet away. Only one and a half flights were lost in the explosion, and another two fighters were shot up during the battle but their Pilots had ejected and were ok.
Galactica suffered some hull warping on her forward decks from the heat of the explosion, and two observation rooms had been smashed by the force of the impacting plasma. The navigation and combat shields had held back the harmful radiation from the fission explosion so the crew should be fine for the most part.
The Memory of Corellia got away with a charred paint job and a really pissed off Jor. He'd have to re paint his armor and the ship thanks to the heat of the Freighters explosion.
"This is Halcyon to all republic units. The situation is stable. Get a refuse team into the system to clean up lose debris and hazards to navigation. And get a Homeworld Assault carrier from the 8th expidionary fleet to begin salvage operations on that cruiser Galactica gutted." Jor said over the com.
Fighters began to form up and land on their respective ships and the crew of the Lysander went about repairing the damage sustained during the battle and analyze the ships sensor data to judge how she performed.
