Yeah and thats all they gave us...seriously Mortal Kombat has run its corse, its gotten so bad that they're talking about in the next game most of the original fighters won't be back. Atleast in Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur they never had to do an entire cast overhaul You say that like it's a bad thing.... <.< Hello? Fight = Death = New characters? There must be something i'm missing.

Although I am a heavy fan of most fighter based platforms I would have to say my votes for Soul Caliber. I'm personally a Nightmare fan.....have been since the very beginning with Soul Edge the game.
(Look it up it's the very first one of the series. xP)

There must be something i'm missing. They've had the same characters for the past 15 years so obviously fight don't equal dead don't equal new characters...and the new characters they do make suck really badly, come on Onaga the Dragon Lord, or what about the drunk that supposedly taught Liu Kang, or the douche bag main character from Armageddon. Mortal Kombat new character track record is worse than Tekken, and Tekken made Lars...Lars...Kazuya's long lost half brother give me a break... But honestly you left some other good fighting games off this list, what about Dead Or Alive, Virtua Fighter, and King of Fighters?...

Scorpion was dead before the first game- so not countin him
Sub-Zero no one even knew was dead till they said oh the one without the mask is his brother and the original is Noob Saboit now
Radien came back as "Evil" Raiden
Liu Kang has his body back and is the Guardian of Earth
Shao Kahn came back, Shang Sun came back, Quan Chi came back
Sounds more like an average episode of DBZ then a fighting game

As for all those you said came back.... well yeah, if you go by Armmagendon's timeline every single one of them came back, but most of them are dead by then. Goro, Shiva, motaro, ect. Even the dragon king is dead. >.> and for MK to go on, blaze had to have died.

I think thats the main problem with MK though, they're so focused concern on killing everyone, that when they do bring in a new character its like who the fuck is this and why should I care, as a matter of fact why should I bother to play the game at all. Every other fighting game story progress as the characters continue to grow, Mortal Kombat got so stagnent that the first thing they did when they came back was to kill their main character for shock value, then when they found out people thought the game sucked without Liu they bought him back in a really stupid way.
Honestly MK lost its goods by the time they dropped Shao Khan for Shinnok...

This is one of the most interesting debates I've seen on site in a very long time, and one of the first I've noticed drake take such a stand it pretty once in a lifetime. Can't wait to see more!

Though I'll take a stand and say they don't have much room to develope a backstory of well rounded character in these games. ;P

I'll argue your point there, Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur all have well developed stories for their main characters. All freshed out in the games, you can actually see how Ryu, Jin and Siegfried characters all change from their encounters with everyone in the fighting games. The main reason is everyone of those games will state that their main characters endings are the canon endings that should be accepted as true.
Mortal Kombat on the other hand had nothing else to do with Liu Kang after he won the tournament so instead they focused more so on plots to destroy earth and shit, and as such all their storylines are disconnected and what not, as in the latest trilogy, DA, Decption and Armegeddon they never tell which of the characters stories is canon. I'll give a perfect example, you think you stop the Deadly Alliance only to find out you die as Raiden at the beginning of Deception. At the end of Deception it says Liu Kang recovered his body thanks to Ermac yet in Armegeddon he's still a damn zombie.
All I'm saying is MK story as a whole is more trash than the usual fighting game dishes out, I mean its a great premise but its like the writers don't know what to do with it or where to take it.

Yeah well to be honest I hadn't played those games so thats wht I didn't add them.
And wow, all this dissing on MK is...wow. I always that that just repeated things but I think its pretty crappy as least with the plot anyway. Always good to see blood and gore spilling everywhere.
