Ryuu entered the sparring room where the Lightsaber Defense class would be held. There were no students there yet so he took off his outer robe and tossed it aside, then sat down and closed his eyes placing his lightsaber on the floor in front of him. He waited for some students to arrive, but even if they didn't it wouldn't mean Ryuu would miss his meditation time.

Moonfire walked into the classroom, she had been alerted that this was the proper time and place for the class, so here she was. She walked slowly, not rushing too much, she'd hate to trip and embarass herself infront of all the other students...
She entered the room, looking about to see no other students... just Ryuu sitting, meditating it seemed... Oh dear, she hoped this was the right time after all. Moonfire walked slow and quietly until she stood directly infront of Ryuu, and sat down. Clad in simple robes, made of brown leather and red cloth, a ribbon of red held back her dark hair. She sat there, waiting for him to finish his meditation, not really wishing to distrub him. Sitting her lap, the hilt of a saber shined slightly.

Ryuu opened one eye as Moonfire sat in front of him and he smiled slightly picking up his lightsaber.
Ryuu: Ah, looks like I have a student...
Quickly, Ryuu stood up and looked at Moonfire's lightsaber.
Ryuu: Well stand up and show me your stance. I assume you're at least proficient in Shii Cho.

Moonfire stood up quickly, and miraclously maintaining her balance, she held her saber, igniting the purple blade in a brighty flash. She looked at him, feeling slightly ashamed.
"Umm... I'm sorry, but I'm not really experienced at all... I've never fought with one before. I can build them, I can turn it on!" she laughed at herself at that one..." But other than that.. I'm well... clueless..." she admitted.

Ryuu: I see.... well as a youngling I would've thought you'd been instructed on the basics of lightsaber use. This class will only be all the more difficult for you if you are unable keep up... but I'll see what I can do. Ryuu gave Moonfire a reassured grin and then ignited his own lightsaber. Ryuu: I do not have time to instruct you in the way of Shii Cho... In this class I teach two forms. Soresu and Djem So. Both of these forms contain defensive elements designed to help protect you against the onslaught of an enemy duelist and against a rain of blaster fire. First, the stance. Ryuu then spun his lightsaber around, turning to his right and holding his saber up near his face pointed towards his opponent in a stance that looked like this. Ryuu: This is the opening stance of Form III: Soresu. Let me see you emulate.

Moonfire feeling rather ignorant at the moment took the stance, feeling the need to explain herself.
"I only joined the temple about a month ago, it took me all that time just to make the saber... So I wasn't really here as a youngling..." she said trying to reassure herself. "I'm a quick learner, no worries." she said taking mental notes of the Soresu form, copying Ryuu's stance.

Ryuu smirked at his student again, himself taking a new stance.
Ryuu: Well then... we shall see how quickly you pick up on this. From my service in war I can tell you the importance of you lightsaber as a means of defense more so then as an offensive weapon. Lightsaber offense is a skill that will come in handy in sparring duels and against agents of the dark side... but in the field by far the most common foe you will encounter are the blaster weilding variety...
Taking a step back, Ryuu picked up a small remote droid and activated it. It began to hover around Moonfire, shifting its positions in the air seemingly randomly.
Ryuu: This is a remote droid. It will fire low energy blaster bolts at you which you must block with your lightsaber. When training to master Shii Cho, the remotes are set on "Padawan" level of difficulty. In order to master Soresu you will need to block the blasts from a "Master" level difficulty... observe.
Ryuu went back into his Soresu stance and the remote hovered back towards him. Suddenly it began to spin firing off blaster bolts in rapid succession and moving all around him. Ryuu swung his lightsaber rapidly with quick, short sweeps, keeping everything close to his body. After about 5 minutes of this the droid stopped.
Ryuu: See? Nothing to it... A true master of Soresu can even defend against several remotes all at once... But we wont go there today. Get yourself ready padawan and remember, quick and short strokes, no large arcing movements...
As Ryuu finished his sentence slowly the remote moved back over Moonfire...

Moonfire held her saber close, and watched as the remote droid fired off at her, her saber moved quickly through the air, blocking the blot of red energy. She smiled, her Saber arcing quickly, and in short strokes. One bolt blocked... two bolts block... three... she thought feeling herself getting the hang of it.
BUZZ! "Ow!" Moonfire winced, she had missed one, the droid ducking and shooting her from an unseen angle. Her saber pulled infront of her again, she successfully blocked the remaining two shots. The droid finished its final round, and in the end, she had only missed that one... Damn.

Ryuu: Stretch out with your feelings. Act, don't think.
Ryuu again reached into his chest of tricks and this time pulled out a helmet with a visor over the eyes. After putting it on Ryuu could not see a thing.
Ryuu: This is something any Padawan should be familiar with... Allow me to demonstrate one of the most basic principles of the force. That is your eyes can decieve you, don't trust them.
With the shield over his eyes the remote came at Ryuu again, and again like before Ryuu bloked every last bolt spinning and twirling his lightsaber in close to his body. Afterwards he removed the helmet and fixed his hair.
Ryuu: The philosophy of Soresu has been described by many of its practitioners as "being in the eye of the hurricane". You must maintain your calm and compossure, undisrupted by the chaos around you.
Ryuu then walked over to Moonfire and plopped the helmet onto her head.
Ryuu: Now I suggest you try it again, but this time act on instinct...

Inside the helmet, Moonfire was plunged into total darkness, and feeling fairly awkward again. She stood there for a moment, as he was about to turn the droid back on. Taking a deep breath, calming her nerves and closing her eyes.
Pew! Pew! The bolts shot off, and with a quick turn Moonfires saber shot out, blocking the first two bolts.
Pew! Pew! Pew! Twirling quickly she blocked two more, her actions becoming fluid and natural. Awkwardness shifting away as she got into it, feeling where the droid was, it was very zen...
Finally it finished, and Moonfire to her shock and joy, had deflected all of the bolts this time around, though didn't know if her form was okay or anything. It was hard to tell how you did without seeing the instructors face....
Lifting up the helmet from her hair, a few mucked up locks of black hair in her face, in a slightly worried voice she asked "How'd I do?"

Ryuu gave a bright smile at Moonfire's question.
Ryuu: Very well. Now it's time to put your defensive skill to the real test...
With a flash the blue blade of Ryuu's lightsaber ignited once again and he went into a stance, gripping his lightsaber with two hands up around his head while still facing Moonfire.
Ryuu: Soresu is the ultimate in lightsaber defense. There is no attack in this form. You instead must rely on quickness, cunning, and most importantly patience in order to out last your opponent. I am going to attack now. Remember what you've been taught here today. Be the eye of the hurricane... Ready? Here I come!
With those words Ryuu sprung forward, using Djem So to attack at Moonfire with slashes from all sides.

Standing in the Soresu stance he taught, Moonfire watched as he came towards her, his saber ready to strike her down. Not even truly thinking, instnct taking over for a moment, she ducked down, avoiding his first slash.
Moving quickly, she darted back and forth, using quick, short arcs to block his saber as she moved about him quickly, in twirling circles, her saber buzzing against his from time to time.

After Moonfire had blocked enough of his assault, Ryuu took a step back and turned off his lightsaber. Ryuu: Very good, Padawan. You have one more form to learn of today. The form I was just applying and one I strongly believe in as perhaps the most useful for a Jedi Knight. Djem So. As always, the first thing we'll learn is the stance. Ryuu went into the same stance as before, his feet still square to Moonfire and holding his saber with two hands up near his head like this. Ryuu: Now you...

After studying Ryuu for a moment, she took up her saber, igniting it once more and taking up his stance, her feet spaced even apart, and the saber ignited and held up behind her, her elbow pointed towards him.
"Like this?" she asked, looking him in the eye for a moment, her face turned slightly pink for a moment, before her eyes darted back to checking over her footing.

Ryuu couldn't help but smile and chuckle a bit at Moonfire's shyness.
Ryuu: Heh, yes that's good... This form was developed by practitioners of Form III who wanted to adapt offense into Soresu's purely defensive style. This is Form V: Djem So, it is designed to not only defend but use an opponent's attack against them. Upon mastering this form you will not only be able to deflect blaster fire but direct it back at its source to use as a weapon. In lightsaber combat the focus of this form is on physical strength and domination of the opponent. It is because of this that there are some in the order who frown upon this form for its focus on controlling an opponent, but from my experience I can tell you there is no better saber technique for a Jedi at war.
The remote rose again and hovered towards Moonfire.
Ryuu: This time I want you to deflect the bolts as you did before, but try and concentrate more on control. Send the blasts back to their source.
