No, it didn't have to be done. EU rules! Anyways.... Anikan was the Chosen One. Prooven and done. Although, the term balance is kinda used badly here. Having all lightsiders and no darkness ain't exactly Balance. May be how a Jedi sees 'balance' but, if one looked at it as bringing Dark and Light to equal standards. I mean, there were as many Dark Jedi in the service of the Empire as there were Jedi in hiding from the Empire at the time, right? Jedi Balance: Light ruling Everything, dark feeding off what little scraps it gets but never being on top. Sith Balance: Screw the Balance, we have power. Kumori Balance: I don't even think they know anymore. But, they can walk through shadows, and that's why people keep joining. lol. My Balance: Same amount of Good as Evil, Dark as Light. And in that Light, Vader brought Balance with a blade in one hand, and the body of thousands at his feet. AKA: My version of what "Balance" entails more murder. Balance could only be achieved through being a Sith. Jedi, be afraid of me. lol Well, I think balance of the force doesn't mean both, but rather neither. Instead of jedi and sith, you could just have the force all by itself, without an affiliation to light or dark. Imagine that.

The purpose of the Jedi was to maintain balance in the galaxy by serving the force, which was one of the guiding principles of the Order.

>.> mik.... <.< if the jedi are the OPPOSITE of the sith, then whats the opposite of dark? i'll give ya a guess. =P
Btw Kumori balance: This is pretty simple, it's going through darkness and through light and coming out on the otherside anew, knowing that something such as the force can't be labeled with such trivial words. =P

I assume the quick and easy path is the opposite of the jedi's path. Since the ideals dont match up very well, unless you want to enlighten me on the details of the simalarities between sith and jedi, for which i assume cain could rip part easily. =P

The prime directive of the Jedi order is not to "Do Good" which is why i keep saying to you guys that they aren't superhero's or intergalactic cops. The Jedi code doesn't say "There is no evil, only good"
The Jedi first and only guiding principle is to serve the Force.
The Jedi of the prequel movies however have lost their way, which is how the orders gone every now and then. The Jedi get to involved in Politics, and become indistinguishable from republic super cops, get fried, then reform back into their simplest form of servitude.

I'd say no, Luke is not the chosen one. Anakin was. How so?
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Well, he balanced out things for light by killing the emporer, and paving the way for Luke to start the jedi back up. Then balanced it for Dark by being one of the main persuasions behind Jacen becoming Caedus. then he balanced it out in the middle by being badass Vader.
So in effect, he balanced everything out by being Vader, and choking some people for thinking the Force was a fake religion.

Anakin Skywalker technically is the Chosen One because he brought balance to the Force "in a way."
1. He slaughtered most, if not all of the Jedi, severely weakening the Light Side.
2. He killed Palpatine and Vader (technically throwing off the evil influence), ending the restrictive Rule of Two as well as striking a tremendous blow to the Dark Side.
With this, both could rebuild. The Jedi Order was rebuild by Luke Skywalker as a more serene and tranquil organization.
While the Dark Side was able to rebuild itself under the influence it was always driven by: United by a shared hatred.

I think that Anakin IS the "chosen one", Luke ISN'T the "chosen one" and enyone who disagrees is an idiot. IF Luke was the "chosen one" than episode I,II,III were usless exept for describing Luke's father. Also in the movies it states that the "chosen one's" mother would be a virgin. Considering that we see Anakin and Padme in the same bed waking up a few times I would say its safe to say Padme is not a virgin.
