"Cap'n! I got six on this side, comin' in real fast-like!"
"Three over here, Captain, and it looks like these are packing heavy guns."
Damn. Just what I needed... a Republic patrol that just happened to show up right when I was passing through. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal. Despite her rather worn down and poorly maintained status, my ship the Crimson Phoenix had yet to fail me in outrunning most small patrols. But that was only if there was a need to run. This baby had a full archive of old and discarded transponder codes, and could change identity in a moments' notice. She usually got past most inspections, primarily because we were always checked when we weren't carrying anything.
But not this time. We had just come out of hyperspace moments before from our previous location, Corellia. Loaded with a huge shipment of low-grade raw materials and weapons to supply to a concealed Czerka Faction, the Phoenix wasn't quite up to her standard speed. Taking into account that we happened to come out of hyperspace right smack dab in front of a Republic patrol, we were lucky to still be alive.
Making quick use of the EMP turrets I had gotten some Corellian mechanics to install, we managed to disable the Republic capital ships' front cannons. Unfortunately, they also each had a dispatch of snub fighters to supplement their main firepower, and we were soon being chased down from all sides. A few quick maneuvers were able to get us past the first few waves, but now we had a full fleet in front of us and behind us. Our only shot was to allocate all the ship's power into the thrusters and shoot ourselves right into Kashyyyk's orbit.
"Captain, what do we do? They are holding fire and demanding that we power down the ship. Just to be sure we can't get away, they've got us locked on auto-turret. Their cannons will be back online in less than thirty seconds, and we've got about that much time to act before they close around us completely."
Now was no time to be indecisive, but I was wondering if it was worth it. We could surrender and maybe manage to plead a smaller penalty to the Courts...
"Cap'n? Their turrets are back online. They're demandin' we respond."
I thought for only a fraction of a moment longer before shouting with bravado, "They ain't got us cornered yet! Slick, get the thrusters ready! Dom, prepare to release our cargo on my mark! Ready... NOW!"
It was a risky call, and I wasn't sure it would work. Just as the patrol saw Phoenix power up her thrusters, they opened fire. I had Dom release all the cargo just in time, as the excess garbage and such was able to absorb the majority of the blast. However, before the ship could fully launch forward, it was hit by some of the remaining cannon shot, sending us spinning off the chosen line of flight.
It seemed like we would be crashing on Kashyyyk without any supplies for Czerka, rather than landing with the shipment intact. If the Republic didn't find us first, I was sure that Czerka would... that's my luck, I suppose.
