If it had been yoda that went to kill Anakin, and Obi Wan to kill the emperor? I have a feeling Obi wan would be disadvantaged fighting the emperor, but what sort of odds would you give Obi Wan? What would the result have been?

That is a hard one. Obi-wan was a master of the Sorusa Form; to the point of being the best. This would have giving him the advantage in lightsaber combat I would imagine, but the Emperor would simple overpowered him with the Force. If Count Dooku could do it, the Emperor would have no problem throwing him around like a rag doll. How do I know this... Yoda said so. "To fight this Lord Sidious, strong enough, you are not."
The Yoda vs Anikan battle is very hard to say. The terrain does not favor Yoda in anyway (unlike with the Senate Chambers). Yoda maybe more skilled at using the Force, but he does not use it for destructive means. This means they would push eachother around a little bit, but in the end Yoda high energy combat form would ware him out and Anikan would have cut him down without becoming disfigured and in the famous suit.
This would eventually mean that Anikan would have been able to challenge the Emperor and the Galactic Empire would have never fallen because Padma would have never been able to hid Luke and Leia. That means the Rebellion never got off the ground and the Galactic Empire would last (while having the Sith Emperor changing every ten to fifty years). Evil would have won.

i'd give better odds to Obi-Wan. but in reality the situation they faced was out of desperation. if either one of them had stopped to think for a minute they would have realized they had the awesome untapped resource of Corellian Jedi just waiting there.
send a Corellian after the emperor with obi-wan and it would have been a much different story.
as for Yoda and anakin. again, it was a rushed attack. they could easily have just traced Padme's ship and waited to strike when anakin left. also, even if yoda did engage anakin, he wouldn't have dragged it out like obi-wan. Yoda would have ended it quick and dirty there on the landing pad. They wouldn't go jumping around over lava and swinging from cables.
but again, that whole situation was a rushed decision. Yoda and Obi-wan decided they had to do something RIGHT NOW instead of waiting to assess their resources. that wasn't necessarily the wrong or worst decision they could have made but it wasn't the only one.

Personally I feel Yoda would have completely finished off Anakin. With ease, who knows, but it could be a possibility. However Yoda would also not have the problem of being the master killing the apprentice, which I feel made Obi-Wan waver.
As for Obi-Wan attacking the Emperor, I'm pretty sure he would have lost Force wise. For combat, he may have done worse than Yoda. Yoda had the advantage of small size, while Obi-Wan could have been cut down as easily as the other Jedi who went to arrest Palpatine earlier.
Most of my assumptions are just from what I've seen... I honestly cannot say that anything I've said is accurate, or if I know how powerful each individual was.

I think Yoda would have defeated Anikan, although it might have been boring if he actually did kill Anikan on that first platform. As for Obi versus the Emperor... well, I'm not sure about the exact strengths of each character, but from the movies I think Palpatine would have had the upper hand. (Just seems like he would crush Obi with the force... of course I might be wrong)

I agree... Ok, another big 'what if': Obi Wan and Yoda has gone after them one at a time. Say, the two of them went first to take out Anakin, then Sidious(or other way around)?

I would say they would kill them successfully that way... Mace Windu actually would have killed Palpatine if it hadn't been for that meddling kid, Anikan.

I think they'd be able to kill only one of them if they did that. Lets say they went to fight Anakin. Anakin would get easily owned, but the word would probably get out and Palpatine could go into hiding and better prepare himself. Actually this would be more apparent if they went to fight the Emperor first. They would probably defeat him, but by then Anakin would be out of reach, his destination unknown. Padme would probably not be able to have her children either.
All guesswork... but as some random person said, don't dwell on what ifs... then again this isn't that important!
