It had been over a few years since he had gone on his first drop onto a nearby planet. The space drop onto a planet within the system against a planet that had declared war upon Onderon had been an utter failure and a bluff. Twenty mando's went down, and only four came back not counting himself. Scans of the planet had originally showed lifeforms of massive scale, throughout what looked like a military base from orbit. Intelligence had called for a early engagement to get them worried about a ground threat while the mandalorian fleet around Dxun would soon be there to reinforce their position. It had all been for nothing, for the distraction intended to distract the enemy was only to distract our own forces.
Bermfad later learned that it was an attempt upon Mandalore's life himself. It had failed thankfully but he had not been there to stop it. Shame had gripped him for weeks until Mandalore himself had come to honor the survivors. Something of that had renewed his vigor and he hightened his trainning throughout the next year as he was being leaned more and more upon by the mandalorian forces. He even moved up the ladder quite quickly for how young he was.
It was now on the verge of his 25th year, and he had gained position of guarding mandalore himself. He woke up this morning and a messager was waiting for him in his room.
"Good to see you join the realm of the living, Vod." said the mandalorian clad in blue armor as Bermfad raised himself to his feet and stood up straight.
"And what would be the problem this morning I wonder that I should be woken so early?" asked Bermfad as he went over to the closet where his armor hung shining with black luster.
"It's Mandalore, he wishes to talk to you." came the man's reply as he watched Bermfad suiting up within his armor, it wasn't long before all that remained was the helm.
"Did he say what about?" asked Bermfad as he held his helmet off to the side with his hand about at his hip. The mando before him simply shrugged through his armor.
"He didn't say anything specifically, no." said the messenger before making his way out. Bermfad stood their for a moment lost in some train of thought he wouldn't remember five seconds later as he put his helmet upon his head and headed for the main complex which had grown over the years to nearly 5 times it's original size. He'd arrive in less then 10 minutes.
Bermfad nodded to both mandalorian's guarding the door, to Mandalore and they let him pass knowing his signature armor. As he came into the room a large screen showing a planet blinked off and Mandalore turned around to face him, his silver armor gleaming lightly in the dimly lit room.
"You called for me, Mandalore?" asked Bermfad trying to sound the least quizically as he could. Mandalore walked forward sitting at a table and motioned for Bermfad to do the same. Silence ensued for a good minute before Bermfad once again spoke. "Is something the matter, Mandalore?"
"You can stop calling Mandalore, Bermfad. The reason I called you here was just to talk, You can call me by my real name since we are alone." said Mandalore as he slowly took off his helmet revealing his old face his hair was turnning almost greyish white and old lines were starting to show.
"Alright Canderous, as you wish." said Bermfad who was having a difficulty staying still, something didn't seem too right at the moment with Mandalore, or at least something had changed.
"All these years my grandson and you have never asked for anything of me, no position, no title, or any special treatment of any kind. Yet you are my kin and of the Clan Ordo." said Canderous.
Bermfad knew this was true, he'd never asked anything, he didn't believe just being related to the Mandalore granted him the right to anything special.
"I've never asked, because I wanted to earn my way up instead of being lifted up. I'd rather be a rancor wandering through the muck of Nal'hutta, then a Mynock sitting upon a high hill." said Bermfad, and Canderous slowly nodded at that taking his hand up to the side of his head.
"I digress, that is not the real reason I have asked for you to come. You see, we cannot stay here forever. Dxun was never meant to house use Mandalorians, it was a battle field of old and never ment to be a settlement. I am known as Mandalore the Preserver, but I have some to realize one thing." said Canderous as he trailed off into the distance.
"And what would that be Canderous?" asked Bermfad curiously as he himself took off his helmet. His brown, spiky hair falling around to about his forhead, and vibrant green eyes waiting eagerly for Canderous' answer to all of this.
"Te Ven Daru Baatir Hakaatir." said Canderous in mandalorian. The closest Bermfad could translate that into Basic would be "The Future no longer needs preservation."
Canderous smirked at Bermfad after saying this and crossed his arms. Bermfad didn't know quite what Canderous was meaning, but he was sure it was something important.
"We are going to remind our lost and fallen vod that the mandalorians are not all but forgotten. It's time we return home. To our real home. Mandalore." said Canderous letting the notion sink in before continuing. "I've already arranged a shuttle for us, we are going just me and you to remind them."
"Your serious about this." stated Bermfad as he thought carefully and then looked up to his grandfather smirking. "I wouldn't have let you go alone after all."
Canderous returned the smile and they both stood up heading for the hangerbay. They made their way towards the ship in the hanger.
"The Ebon Hawk.... it's been a long time girl." said Canderous running his hand along the side of the hull. Bermfad stood back looking at the ship, it seemed old, very old. "Out of curiousity what would have happened if I did ask for a favor from you?" asked Bermfad now thinking back to the previous conversation.
Canderous turned around putting his helmet on. "I would have punched you in the face." said Canderous as he went up hatch to the ship. Bermfad shook his head, sometimes he couldn't understand his grandfather's humor. He headed upon the ship and they soon took off towards the space between Dxun and Onderon. Soon he was calculating hyperspace routes as well as looking around on the holonet. Before he could ask where they where headed Canderous called him back into the cargo hold.
"I was saving this for a special occasion, but since that probably won't happen until I die I'm going to give it to you." said Canderous opening one of the containers and revealing an odd suit of armor which a curious coating. Bermfad leaned in closer to observe the armor and then looked over to Canderous.
"Just what it is?" asked Bermfad before taking the suit out of the container and examing it. It looked like it had been coated in something that had once been living and it had a cloak with an odd hue.
"A present from Revan, he told me it makes you damn slippery to a force sensitive. I've no use for it right now, but i've heard you've run into a few force sensitives on your travels." said Canderous who then walked back towards the cockpit. Bermfad continued to gaze at the armor before storing it once more into the container he would put it on later before arriving at their destination, there was plenty of time anyways.
As he arrived in the cockpit he could see Canderous was already mapping a hyperspace route. "Where are we headed?" asked Bermfad and Canderous only replied vaguely.
"Revan left plenty of secrets behind him, I just happen to know a good deal of them." said Canderous, right before entering hyperspace.
