Jax sighed. Finding his brother wasn't going to be as easy as he had originally thought. Apparently Kai had buried himself deep, covering his tracks every step of the way. It had taken forever to even track him this far.
"Damn it Kai. What were you thinking?"
He blew a strand of semi wavy light brown hair out of his face. Looking at his reflection in a piece of nearby metal, he sighed again. As usual he was unkempt and tired looking, the many late hours and drinking had done it to him, but he couldn't stop.
Screams and death seemed to follow him everywhere, like some sort of malevolent spirit, creeping in from the sides, but when you turn to look there was nothing there. He shook his head to clear his mind, the approached a nearby rodian. Removing a datapad from his utility belt, he looked at him questioningly.
"Hey there! I was just wondering if you've seen this man at all. He's... a good friend of mine. His family is worried about him."
The Rodian stared at him icily, not even looking at the pad. Then it leaned forward and glared.
"What would I care about some scumbucket human? They are like grains of sand out here. As a matter of fact, you could say that this planet was a vast desert. And all you people do is bring me more sand."
It turned away, chortling softly.
"Go back home. That boy is probably meat for one of the gangwars. Hopefully lying dead in a ditch. I have better things to do than stare at your ugly face all night. Now leave me before things get serious." He motioned to the vibroblade at his hip.
Jax put his hands in the air and slowly backed away shrugging.
"SOooooooo-ry...", he quipped sarcastically.
As the rodian continued down the street, Jax's eyes were drawn to the datapad once again and he frowned.
"Kai.. Darn it. Where are you?" he whispered in frustration.
Well, if it was one thing, at least he knew he had found the slums.
He was interrupted as his commlink crackled into life. The gruff voice of his father seemed tired as well. This had taken its toll on all of them.
"Jax. You might want to get back to the ship. I've just received word that we're not the only ones here looking for Kai."
Jax's brow furrowed, his green eyes narrowing. If this was true... things had just become much more dangerous. Cursing again, he turned away from the street and darted into a alleyway. He leaned up against the wall and spoke again.
"Dad, do you think-?"
"Yes. I'm pretty sure Owappa sent bounty hunters. Keep on your toes! I'm already missing one son, don't think I could take another disappearing on me."
Jax chuckled, more as a reassurance to his father than any glee he felt himself.
"Don't worry Daddy. I can take care of myself."
His father responded with a snort.
"Yeah, well, don't let your guard down."
