Maria got off the public transport that had just landed on the planet. The ship had been rusted all throughout the ship and it was a wonder the thing was still working. The crew had assured her that she was running in top condition however the engines sounded like it was sputtering every few minutes, and she found the mostly Rodian crew to be somewhat unconvincing. During the trip she had tried to ignore most of the passengers and worries that the ship was going to fall apart in the middle of space, stranding them there.
She had found a few books on alien languages, as well as a planet guide that had occupied most of her time, and now it was over and time to pull her nose out of the books. So now she stood looking out at the city that looked like it had been built into a forest. They had many tree's and plants integrated along the walkways. Bushes and strange plants decorated nearly every window as she walked through the city it was quite beautiful and for not she had just decided to walk around and see where she ended up.
Eventually she found herself in the center of town there many people where trying to sell things installs from blasters, to alcohol, to scented plants, and even holoprojectors. She rummaged through the stores looking at all the stuff but not really buying anything. It was when she came to a junk store she noticed a peculiar box that was accumulating dust. She went for it and picked it up looking at it and then went to the salesmen.
"What is this?" asked Maria spinning the box over on each side. For the most part it looked the same on all sides. The man took the box from Maria's hands and looked it over. "Ah yes, I found this in the forest some years ago, never could get it to work however, you can have it for 100 credits. I really don't know what it's for maybe if you find someone who can find out what it is."
He handed it back to Maria and she held it in her hands staring at it for a moment as she was making a decision. She hesitated and then pulled off her gloved hands and placed her hands upon the top and bottom of the box. She closed her eyes, and suddenly she was pulled away from her surroundings. She saw flashes of a grand building within a forest planet not much unlike this planets, and then an old man who wore brown robes, and was that.... she found herself back in the room again and the man looked at her oddly. "So what do you say miss?"
"I'll take it." said Maria as she pulled out the credits to pay the man for it. After wondering out of the shop she decided to head to a cafe and try to see how the box had worked. She had seen in the old man's hands it had glowed blue, and what had prompted her to buy it was the fact that the man had held an item that looked similar to her family heirloom. She didn't know it was called a lightsaber or that it was a Jedi tool and a Sith weapon. As she worked looking around at the box she tried to find any sort of button but nothing of the sort and no hints appeared on the box. Saddened by this she considered taking it back for a moment however she immediately decided against it.
Maria put a hand on it and began to tap her fingers on it thinking about what she would do next. As she was thinking the holocron began to give off a faint blue glow. She didn't notice until a woman with brown long hair walked up to her, she wore light brown robes, had vibrant green eyes. The woman was accompanied by a rough looking Iridonian who crossed his arms when he approached. Maria was unsure of what the too wanted but the woman didn't look like she meant any harm, however her companion looked imposing.
"Do you know what that is?" asked the woman pointing at the box, and Maria looked at it. It was glowing slightly, and it began to fade possibly from her shock.
"Uhm, I'm afraid I do not know no.... but I know it belonged to a rather old man before it came into my possession. I was trying to figure out how it works." replied Maria taking her hand off of the box. The woman bent down to look at it very carefully and then came up once she seemed sure of what it was.
"It's a Jedi Holocron, Rather rare. It's usually used to record the teachings of a Jedi Master or Jedi Knight. Oh, excuse me. I'm Rin, and this is my friend Jik, but he likes to go by Bones." said the lady apparently named Rin.
"A Jedi Holocron? I see, so do Jedi use things like these?" asked Maria pulling out a lightsaber which made Rin flinch for a moment as if she was expecting an attack. "Yes, it's called a Lightsaber. How did you get these two things if you don't know what they are?"
"Probably stole them." said Bones offhandedly, only to receive a swat on the back of his head. He looked unaffected by the hit from Rin but he did rub the back of his head slightly. "Jik, be nice!"
"I got one as a family heirloom and the Holocron one I bought at a junk store." said Maria wondering now why her family had passed a lightsaber down their family for so long without knowing it was a Jedi weapon or perhaps her parents had known someone in the family had been a Jedi. "Don't jedi use magic?"
"Uh... yes and no. We use something called the force. Others perceive this to be magic, it's not an uncommon mistake." said Rin looking back to the holocron.
"Does that mean you are a Jedi?" asked Maria curiously for Rin seemed to know quite a bit about the subject. Rin looked at Maria and a grim smirk held her face for a moment.
"Being a Jedi these days is dangerous business especially in Empire territory. I used to be a Jedi Padawan at one time, but I'm afraid I've had the worst luck in that department." replied Rin before asking something else. "The force can run strong in families, I wonder would you mind trying an experiment?"
"I'm afraid I can't use any of the.... force is what you called it?" said Maria, trying to think if her parents showed any strange signs but she couldn't think of anything.
"Could you humor me?" asked Rin and Maria hesitantly nodded. "Place both your hands on the holocron's sides and close your eyes. Focus on the cube between your hands, and try to see it in your mind."
Maria did as Rin said and the cube began to glow slowly. Maria didn't noticed however she did feel something, on the edge of her senses. Suddenly the holocron came to light with an old man appearing out of the holocron like that of a force ghost or a hologram projector. Maria opened her eyes and was surprised to see the old man, and somewhat frightened.
