Question...rather a fucked up question (in fact not really sure where I got it from)
When is it okay to kill someone? I mean people get sent to jail for killing a person but then a soldier can get praised for killing an enemy. So when exactly is murder okay.
For your country
for your religion
for revenge
to protect yourself...
When?

For your country for your religion for revenge to protect yourself... When? Well if you are a soldier, what do you want them to do? Shout at the enemy? It is okay to kill someone for your country. Revenge...no Religion? Not sure about that. Protecting yourself:Yes. You are in self defense.

Cain it doesn't matter who's answer you give you can answer for Cain and Matt.
and as far as what you said Will. I agree about the soliders though I feel its wrong to kill in general in combat you have to kill or be killed. And as far as self defense go I think you should kill only when its a last option.

Okiday Matt: Killing is something that should only be done as an absolute last resort. Like when someone is attacking you and your life is in danger (this would also apply to war). Vengeance and Religion are both very stupid reasons to kill someone. ESPECIALLY religion. Cain: When someone wrongs you they have given you an open invitation to react in an equally if not even harsher manner. I would not call this revenge, I'd call it justice. All the reasons you've listed could be adequate reasons to kill and their are others too. The idea for all of them is to protect yourself and your way of life and to show those who would threaten it that their actions will not go unpunished. Death is all that those who deal in the death of others care about or understand.

Ugggg... my views on this are complicated...
I don't believe its okay to kill someone... the only time is if its in prevseravtion of your own life, like self defesne. All other reasons are not good enough in my opinion...

Do you want Matt's answer or Cain's answer? What about your answer? I don't believe in taking one's life (big suprise there) unless it's absolutely necessary. Self defense is a good enough reason I would think, as long as that's the same level of force they're using against you. Death as punishment is.....debatable. It would be a lot easier to say if killing was right or wrong for a certain situation, and not just in general.

it seems most of us agree on this one...okay but what about killing to save a family member or your wife/husband, or someone you really cared for?

Matt: I would say it's ok to save those you love. I think thats what it means to love... not killing people but that you'd be willing to go to any length to protect them.
Cain: Caring for people will only end up getting you killed. In the interest of self preservation you shouldn't make attatchments that will cause you to act irrationally. Protecting others is an incredibly foolish reason to kill.

It is NEVER, under no circumstances is it "Ok" to kill. But sometimes you gotta, there's just no going around it. That doesn't mean you get to feel good about it, or even feel just ok with it. You took a life, thats a major wrong your going to have to live with, even if it was in self defense. but please, if someone is gunna kill you, don't hesitate to try and kill him back. Your life is just as good has his.
I will say one thing though. The one thing i hate more than murders, are absolute pacifists. The people who wont lift a finger to fight against someone, even if that someone were going to kill countless lives. The people that just hate violence so much that they'll let violence continue, just so they can stay clean from it.
It's all about intentions people. Force without venom, violence without rage and hatred. Killing isn't always the only method of self defense. sometimes shooting the other guy in the knee works just as well.
